The New South Wales Hardcourt Tennis Association is conducting a number of hitting and training squads for boys and girls in 2016.
The ages of players participating in the squads range from 10 up to around 20 years. The squads cater for most standards.
All squads are conducted by highly respected professional tennis coaches and are based in the Sydney/metropolitan area.
The Hardcourt Association has created a pathway which starts with a Junior Squad and progresses to the Advanced or Elite squads.
The squad fees are subsidised by the 15 Hardcourt member Associations. Each term consists generally consists of 9 weeks.
The squads are detailed below:
John Thompson’s Elite Training Squad – Tuesday nights
This squad is based at the Parramatta City Tennis Centre in Barton Street, North Parramatta and runs on a Tuesday night between 6pm to 8.30pm. John Thompson is assisted by James O’Brien.
Participants in this squad are generally ranked below 1,000 – but rankings are only taken as a guide. A trial may be necessary to be included in this squad. The squad trains on the clay courts.
Ryan Slark’s Advanced Training Squad – Wednesday nights
This squad on a Wednesday night at the Parramatta City tennis centre starts at 6.30pm and finishes at 9pm. It generally includes boys and girls 13 to 16 years of age. It can be the pathway for inclusion in the Elite Squad at Parramatta.
Ryan Slark’s Junior Training Squad – Tuesday nights
This squad is conducted at the Parramatta City Tennis Centre on a Tuesday night from 5.45pm to 8.15pm. Participants include boys and girls from 10 to 13 years of age. It is a stepping stone to the Advanced Squads.
James O’Brien’s Elite matchplay squad – Thursday nights
This squad practices on the clay courts at Parramatta and runs for two hours between 6 and 8pm. The program has been devised by John Thompson and includes doubles and singles match play. Each week there will be different themes, such as normal set play, fast 4 format, tie break formats, long and short deuce sets, best of 3 sets, single set format so each player can get some doubles and singles play on the same night.
